Peloton Newbie

So...it's been what? 11 days since I've gotten my Peloton bike and I've 177 workouts under my belt. Of those, 37 have been on the bike! I can see some of you doing the math...9 days, 37 workouts, that's over 4 rides a days...okay, Wanda girl, you are gonna burn yourself out! Right? Wrong! Those rides also include warm up and cool down down rides, which can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. Some of them were "fun" rides, or "theme" rides as they are called. All of these rides add up over time.

One thing I have learned, is the importance of those warm up and cool down rides. I often take a 10-15 minute Low Impact ride as a warm up prior to a Power Zone training class. During this time, I have been concentrating on my pedal strokes. Matt Wilpers, who is the premier trainer for the Peloton Power Zone Training, has great Low Impact rides that focuses on technique. By paying close attention to your technique when riding, you can become a more efficient rider and last longer on your rides.

I've noticed that my pedaling technique needs work, so I practice pedaling with one leg at a time to strengthen each (my left leg is HORRIBLE). I am also trying to work on my cadence. Right now, my normal cadence is like at 76-77. Trying to get to and maintain 80 is tough. I have to deliberately focus on staying there, otherwise it seems that my legs decide to take a break even though my mind knows it's supposed to be going faster. It's like I have to train my brain to "talk" to my left leg and tell it work harder!

Power Zone Training

Okay, so I took the Power Zone Plunge! There was all this hype on the #BPR Facebook page about power zone training. I was thinking, "oh you gotta be an experienced rider" and "I would probably do that come April". Well, after looking at post after post about it doesn't matter your experience level, I decided to take the plunge! Boy, am I glad I did! It has truly pushed me out of my comfort zone and I am no longer afraid. As a matter of fact, I hit a triple digit output in a Power Zone class (where you stay at zone 3 and 4 most of the class). I am even joining a Power Zone Challenge this month (Did I say that out loud? Wish me luck!). But I know I can do this!! And check out my stats on my FIRST 45 minute Power Zone Endurance class (I didn't die)!!

What's the Hype?

So, what are my thoughts about the Peloton "hype" thus far? It's REAL! The hype is real, the motivation is real, it's the real deal! The bike that "goes nowhere" can take you places you have only dreamed of via their scenic rides. I've come to love just about every workout I have done! From yoga to strength training to meditation to outdoor walks--everything has pushed me in some way. I absolutely love Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts (fellow soror) for my yoga and meditation classes, there is something about her voice that is calming and soothing. There is something on the app/bike for EVERYONE!!

Right now, Peloton is running a 60 day free trial for new app users (it's usually 30 days)! This is a perfect way to check it out! If you are interested in purchasing a Peloton Bike or Tread, I'd like to offer you a referral code for $100 toward accessories! When you speak to a representative or check out, enter the code P963SR. I am telling you--you won't be disappointed. Follow me on the Leaderboard at #FitFabMe. We can also end up working out "together" by being on at the same time. Visit the Peloton website to learn more!

Yes, I am ALL IN! Not everyone in my every day life understands my commitment and fascination with Peloton (it's considered "bougie" to many), so I am grateful for my Facebook groups which have been a space for me share my excitement about "the little things". Thank YOU for following me on this blog as I share my musings over all things Peloton. Perhaps one day, if you haven't already, you will drink the Peloton Kool-aid and take this journey with me! Don't forget--enter my Referral ID to get your $100 bonus in accessories!!

Give me STRENGTH!

It's been awhile and I've spent the better part of February, TRYING to get my head around adding strength training to my fitness routine. In this past month, I have dipped my toe into the Bike Bootcam
