Finish STRONG!

As 2020 comes to close, I think about everything that has been happening in 2020 and truly hindsight IS 20/20! When this year began, little did I know it would end with me starting a blog or even more, that I would be diving head first into a fitness journey that has truly transformed my life.

I have become much more active than I have been in a very long time. I am dedicated to planning out my week and remaining committed to the plan. If I don't want to do something I planned, I have to switch it for something else. Doing nothing is not an option!

I Got a Peloton Bike!!!

This Christmas, my husband gifted me with a Peloton bike!

Even before I got the bike, the Peloton app has been life changing! Pre-COVID, I went to the yoga studio three times a week. Once COVID consumed our country, going to a gym was no longer an option for me. With the Peloton app, I am able to bring the yoga studio right to my living room! I have taken focus area classes (hips, quads, hamstrings), I've dabbled in restorative yoga, and I am strengthening my practice in yoga flow.

I joined some AMAZING Facebook pages and have found so much support along the way: #BlackGirlMagic: The Peloton Edition; #BPR: Black Peloton Riders Community; #AKAPelotonPearls; BPR Power Zone Riders; and (don't laugh) Peloton #ShortieTribe to name a few! I have learned so much about cycling and working out in general on these pages, but more importantly, I have found a community of like-minded individuals, all striving for the same goal: to lead a healthier, fitter lifestyle.

Stepping up my Game!

With the arrival of my bike, cycling is making me step up my fitness game. I'm by no means an expert at spinning. As a matter of fact, this stuff is HARD!! The Power Zone training is game changing (but that's a story for another day). But what I AM becoming an expert at is persevering when things get tough! Pushing through mentally when my mind is saying "it's too hard" or "you can't hold that cadence". Truly taking mind over matter and finishing STRONG!

That is what my focus is right now--finishing this year STRONG!! In a month's time, I have amassed over 160 workouts on Peloton

from 5 minute core strengthening classes to 30 minutes Power Zone Endurance cycling classes to 60 minute yoga flow classes. Every minute counts and is worth something! When I first got the bike, I didn't think I would be able to do a 30 minute class, but I found it is DOABLE!

The hardest part of any fitness journey is taking that first step. Even when you are IN the journey, taking that first step to put on your exercise gear and suit up for that workout is sometimes the hardest part. Once you get on that bike or that mat and get started--then FINISH, the feeling is exhilarating! What's something that is hard for you that you are thinking of tackling? Are you finishing this year stronger than you started? Drop a comment below. I'd love to hear from you!

Give me STRENGTH!

It's been awhile and I've spent the better part of February, TRYING to get my head around adding strength training to my fitness routine. In this past month, I have dipped my toe into the Bike Bootcam
